Travel Experience – Club Med Bali
By Debbie Hulbert
Travelling to Bali last November, I flew both ways with Garuda – the aircraft were clean and comfortable and staff were courteous and friendly.
Although it rained most nights, the days were beautiful with clear skies, which is unusual for the wet season so a lovely surprise.
The Club Med Resort grounds are extensive – lush grass, palm trees and a beautiful beach with plenty of furniture for everyone. The resort has a large Main Pool for activities like volley ball, water aerobics and games and is ideal for families, kids and anyone really. The Serenity Pool is for adults only, so no one under 18 is permitted.
The Main Restaurant is buffet style with about 11 stations of different cuisines which change nightly. There were lots of fresh salads and vegetables along with fish, chicken, beef prawns etc. Something for everyone including a do-it-yourself pasta/pizza station which was fabulous! Beer, wine and soft drinks are served to your table.
The Deck Restaurant is a la carte and fabulous, offering full drink and meal service for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menus change regularly and very much fine dining in a relaxed beachside atmosphere. The Main Bar is located close to the main pool and is huge with seating/lounges available for everyone undercover plus day beds and lounges on the surrounding grass. This is also the venue for the nightly entertainment after the evening shows have finished in the theatre styled stage area.
Each night there is a different event in the stage area which may be circus / trapeze style or sports and comedy night. There is a DJ and dancers or a band in the bar and for those who wish to stay on, an outdoor nightclub located by the beach operates until around 1am.
The water sports centre has everything and is all included! There are some paid water sports such as jet skis and “Jetpacks”!
The Resort runs daily programs starting from early morning Yoga, Power walks, TTT, full operational Gym, Boot camp etc, all included. They also have a golf course and 4 tennis courts, an archery range, volleyball, basketball – the list goes on. Free lessons are provided for Golf, Tennis and Archery. Events/tournaments are organised throughout your stay if you choose to participate.
With everything included as well as a full open bar you really don’t need to pay for anything other than the Spa, which is magical. A lovely long massage, seaweed wrap and then a Ginger Tea by the Tranquillity Pool – perfect for an afternoon.
An amazing Kids Club operates for all ages and is included, except for the very young where you can hire a nanny at a very reasonable rate. The kids do lots of activities including all the sports available that are age appropriate, with their own tournaments, plus the pool competitions, arts and crafts etc. The Kids Clubs are operated by fully qualified staff.
With absolutely everything included you could go and not spend a cent. One of the ladies came with the intension of not spending any money and she didn’t. Not a cent. The day we went to La Plancha on Seminyak beach (similar to Potato head) she did a Sunset Cruise instead – free.
With the ocean bridge the time without traffic is around 35 minutes to Seminyak and 45 to Kuta. In busy traffic this can stretch out to 2 hours so keep this in mind when choosing your time to travel to external activities.
Five minutes away is the Bali Collection Shopping Centre, which has some lovely boutiques plus Aussie surf brands and some more local items. it also has bars and restaurants.
